Rooted Rituals : Tales of Natural Wander on Tuesday 16th - Thursday 18th April 2024

Rooted Rituals : Tales of Natural Wander is an exhibition highlighting the artworks of six emerging artists inspired by nature, its impact on us, and the memories we hold as a result. Between the 16th-18th April 2024, the artists will be bringing together their work for public viewing in Comme Ca Art, creating an immersive space to experience their wide scope of multidisciplinary works. Inviting the viewer into their individual narratives of nature and memory through photography, painting, projection, and sculpture.

Mireia Pujol

In the series of images that I am currently working on, we observe detailed plans of nature, whether branches, tree trunks, stone, reliefs…

When I’m surrounded by nature, I find it inevitable to photograph small details that nobody would look at and try to translate its essence or magnify it in an image.

All images share almost the same chromatic range, when you approach and observe them carefully, you realize that each of them shows different characteristics that make each of them unique with its own essence.

Sometimes we can recognise what is being photographed, and sometimes we cannot, as I find it interesting to play with abstraction..

Sadie Tankard

My interdisciplinary work uses fabric, plaster, found materials, text, video, and sound to reconfigure the domestic and everyday, translating and framing through the lens of social urban contexts. Themes of childhood trauma, medical intervention, and care emerge in uncanny interstitial spaces, attempting to expose the material and environmental impact of capitalist constructs and their imposition on our perception and interaction with the physical, metaphysical and the natural world.

Jessie Webster

Working from the idea of the collection on marine treasures, I use gestural charcoal drawing along with sculpture in different media’s as tools for observation. The recreation and grouping of these forms is central to my practice, allowing an abstracted view of these natural objects.

Felicity Bithell

My work is heavily influenced by collecting natural forms from beaches such as shells, driftwood and seaweed but I also find interest in collecting man made pollutants such as plastic, sea glass and pottery. By using a mixed media approach such as paint, sculpture, wood and plastics, I am able to highlight intricacies of these biomorphic forms, bringing an idea of past and new lives together.

Fay Pritchard

I explore personal identity and nostalgia through nature and mediums such as ceramic sculptures, projection, and painting. My work carries imagery from natural forms and the contrast of memories from Japan and Britain. This series of work aims to create an immersive experience through multiple senses, stimulating visuals, sound, and the use of space as each piece interacts with one another.

Immy Griffiths

I am a multidisciplinary artist exploring themes of childhood and nostalgia. I work with a plethora of mediums such as clay, wood, paint and wire, combining these different materials to bricolage my ideas. Inspired by nature I often incorporate found natural materials into my work, attaching them to paintings and clay sculptures. Through my work I aim to investigate my child self, exploring childhood imaginations through immersive artworks evoking a sense of innocent reminiscence.
