Rhythm & Revolution on Saturday 13th April 2024

Rhythm and Revolution is a monthly jazz club, bases in a very intimate venue in the Argyle Cellar Bar.

In chill and friendly environment, the evening begins with live performance from the artists of the night and then follows by the DJ who will take the evening to another level of sonic experience with handpicked record collections from around the world.

Gnawa Trance Fusion

Gnawa Trance Fusion brings Moroccan Sufi praise music to a meeting with blues and Afro-funk. Gnawa music is a well-preserved heritage of ritual poetry with traditional music and dance, becoming increasingly known to international audiences and showcased at popular festivals in Morocco and round the world. Traditionally performed at Lilas, entire communal nights of healing and celebration which are guided by a master musician, influences trace to Sub-Saharan West Africa. Gnawa Trance Fusion combine traditional and modern instruments to create an irresistible celebration of existence. Compelling instrumental and vocal phrases are created from traditional call and response sources and combined with creation around the repertoire which draws on jazz, reggae and other influences. This is an addictive rhythmic experience, at once a soul party and a mystical transport to Africa - Gnawa Trance Fusion brings a unique cultural experience to the contemporary and world music scene.   Omar Afif & Gnawa Trance Fusion is a 4 piece line up comprising guembri and vocals (Omar Afif) endongo/ xylophone (Andy Cooke) saxophone (Steve Kettley) drumkit (George Ato Williams)
