Independent Venue Week is all about paying tribute to the event spaces across the UK that we know and love, where culture is created and inspires countless people each year. We're highlighting some of the venues that we believe in this year and our latest spotlight is focussed on Old Fire Station in Carlisle.

Opened in May of 2015, we're fast-approaching a decade of the venue being in business and it has an eclectic mix of programming on each year. Not only a space for music, it also frequently sees some of the best upcoming comedians come through its doors as well as being an arts space.

Some of the comedians set to perform at the venue in 2024 include Janey Godley, Ivo Graham and Jamie Hutchinson. Not only is it a place for upcoming comedians, during shows such as The Comedy Store but it has also established itself as a firm favourite of some of the most recognisable names around.

The music programming at Old Fire Station is where the eclecticism comes into play, as you can not only catch indie legends playing here but there are plenty of tribute bands and DJs playing classics from across the dance music spectrum. For example, Trevor Nelson will be bringing Soul Nation to the venue in February.

Other highlights to look forward to include Martin Kemp playing 80s classics and The Zutons will be making a stop on their highly-anticipated intimate tour. The venue has been propelled forward by Will and Maxine Morgan, who have shaped the venue into the hottest ticket in town.

2023 saw Old Fire Station have its most successful year to date despite the cost of living crisis, which is testament to how much of a beloved part of the community it has become. To see what else is coming up at the venue click - here.
