Never Be Alone - D.O.D remix

Purring his own spin on Sonny Fodera and Becky Hill’s ‘Never Be Alone’, Bury-born D.O.D made this one a bit more club, rave, and festival-ready. 

Sounding a bit garage-inspired with the lively percussion, this remix gives us a surge of energy. Building it up with heavenly strings and synths before dropping hard in a way that makes you picture the wild scenes of his upcoming shows, it’s the kind of banger that invokes a yearning to be stood in the rave facing the speaker when this one comes on.

Essential Listening: Indie and Alternative

 

POP POP POP - IDLES

Taken from the Bristol band’s new and fifth album TANGK, which dropped on the 16th, ‘POP POP POP’ is a cracker about taking pleasure in other people’s joy. 

Mainly about the band’s vocalist Joe’s daughter, the repeated “freudenfreude” is a made-up word to mean taking pleasure in other people’s joy, a response to the real word “schadenfreude” meaning taking pleasure from another person's misfortune.

Sonically hypnotic, ‘POP POP POP’ goes to show the power the band can harness, even with stripped-back, relatively simple tracks.

Get To Me - Culture Shock

With a kick drum that makes you want to whack your speakers to full volume to feel it in your chest, Culture Shock has gifted us another certified banger with his signature squeaky clean production sound.

Booming with a driving but wobbly bass and chopped vocals providing some serious energy, this is one you have to try with earphones for sounds that tickle that bit of your brain. If that sounds mad, trust us, you’ll get it when you hear it.

Vertino - Conway the Machine & Joey Bada$$ 

Arguably one of the busiest rappers in the game, Conway returns with a new collaborative track with Joey Bada$$ 

The instrumental on this one is lazy, maybe even a little trippy, with a boom-bap beat and a fresh but old-school feel, a style he’s plenty familiar with. Featuring that intoxicating, vocally layered hook backed by a whining guitar line, this one will no doubt be in our regular rotation for a minute or two.
