Review of Dr John Cooper Clarke - The Luckiest Guy Alive
John was late to arrive and drunk, and abusive to Worthing. He was continually repetitive and not interesting or amusing, quickly lost most of the audience who started to leave with open mouths and anger....he was so munted he didn’t know where he was or what or why he was there....outrageous to rip off and s**t all over us.

Review of Dr John Cooper Clarke - The Luckiest Guy Alive
Both support acts were warmly received & enjoyed by all! John Cooper Clarke is maybe now In his dotage & slipped into Victor Meldrew mode a few times! There were less poems & a lot of rambling than in previous years when iv'e seen him & he did lose his thread several times! His comments on Brighton & homosexuals went down like a lead balloon as did his comments on Scottish independence being highly unlikely & was met with polite silence! The venue came out very badly after the main act was a little late coming on a maybe tipsy fan started chanting "John Cooper Clarke" & was extremely violently removed causing much distress amongst the audience!

JC Clarke was a bit rambling, but still some flashes of brilliance so worth seeing. 2 support poets were also excellent, especially Henry Normal who is a natural entertainer.

Review of Dr John Cooper Clarke - The Luckiest Guy Alive
For "Music" grade read performance overall.
You can only recommend JCC if you explain to the other person that there will be a lot of rambling & very few poems, but that the rambling will be occasionally OTT but mainly hilarious. Once you know that, you can relax & enjoy without impatience.
His delivery these days is faster than ever & a bit difficult to catch all the words, and he does sometimes forget lines now which isn't surprising. Nevertheless I cried with laughter or shared the shock of his (pre?) Thatcher era outrage. Probably he should do more, newer naterial these days, but never mind, bands have to remember their hits too.
The two poets on beforehand were far more than just a support & explained the ticket cost which is a bit above the approaching Benjamin Zephania date. Salena Godden was powerful in ideas & passion, Henry Normal was for me a rather strange but quite enjoyable combination of music hall short pieces & longer, moving sensitivity. I would have liked more of the latter but my pal related to the whole.
I was sorry the MC was grating and irritating, and there was no need for him to say anything at all before the second half other than appear, give brief reason for delay - fine, & say "JCC", but the attempted build up was feeble & unnecessary. Fortunately I was able to forget about him once he went.
A mention about the ticket booking through Skiddle which was bizarre. I had an email to say to downlad the tickets a second time as there had been a slight discrepancy with the seating. The tickets appeared identical however so that seemed to have wasted a lot of my time!

Review of Dr John Cooper Clarke - The Luckiest Guy Alive
This was my first experience of JCC and i was a bit bemused. It took me a while to get into him but i got him a bit by the end. I felt that i wasn't seeing him at his best. He appeared a bit fragile and repeated himself a lot.
I thought the interval was far too long, irrespective of the interruption by someone in the audience.
On reflection, i wouldn't book to see him again but appreciate he must have been quite awesome in the past.
