Local Authority venue information
The Local Authority is a new 350 capacity night club space. This new club space is located on Eldon Street in Sheffield, just off Division Street and is directly above the main room of Corporation.
Its interior decor blends the features of the gallery space that it once used to be along with the heritage of the pre war industrial building in which it is housed.
The minimal look of the former gallery space is evident throughout along with the use of materials from the buildings 1930’s origins.
The large sliding wooden door that once divided the cutlery makers from the office is now located at the end of the venues impressive main corridor. Even the original windows and bricks now form part of the bar itself.
The white, high vaulted ceilings provides the canvas upon which more than 14 projectors provide a panorama of images both moving and stills that create so much movement it almost appears that the roof is missing!
All of this activity is bordered underneath by graffiti and stencil work that is set to constantly change. Local Authority have invited artists to not only submit their interpretations of these borders, but those chosen, will also be able to provide digital images of their work for the immense moving canvas that is the ceiling.
Your eye cannot escape the colourful movement above your head as you relax in one of the many sofas next to the monochrome precision of the lower levels.
Having purchased a drink from the 7m long bar, it soon becomes evident that Local Authority has yet another level. The centrally placed stage makes this an ideal mid sized, 350 capacity gig venue. The positioning of the stage gives maximum viewing for gig goers whilst providing a cutting edge sound quality with its Fane Colossus driven in house PA system.
