Norfolk Summer Deaf Festival on Friday 24th - Saturday 25th May 2019

We recognise that hearing loss can feel isolating and we want to demonstrate that you are not alone, anything is possible, no matter what loss you have, what age you are or where you come from. Our festival is a chance to make friends, source tools to support independence, meeting new inspiring deaf and hard of hearing people, learn about deaf culture and so much more. The whole two days will have access to British Sign Language interpreters and captions, equal access for all.

We have the inspirational Paul Whittaker, a musician and performer who is profoundly deaf hosting the event and a signed song workshop, so come and learn how to translate some songs into British Sign Language. We also have David Ellington, a deaf actor, famous for his interpretation of adverts during the Olympics. With these two hosting, there is bound to be lots of laughs and definitely not to be missed!

The fantastic NDCS Roadshow bus will be coming along again and sharing vital information for all ages and all types of hearing loss, as well as companies such as Advanced Bionics and Phonak with stalls brimming with information. Local services such as Easton College, Deaf Connexions, Sign The Cross will also be there and many more.

Hearing dogs for deaf people will be giving an inspiring talk about their role and plenty of opportunities for cuddles. A wide range of signing choirs will be performing including Claire’s School, Colman Junior School and Bungay High School.

Raymond Antrobus and Donna Williams, deaf poets will be running workshops so that you can learn poetry skills and gain some insight into the magical world of poetry and sign language working together. Tickets will be available on Eventbrite shortly.

Olivier Jamin and Sunny Chana, deaf artists will be running art workshops where you can learn how to decorate a tote bag and t-shirt combining the effect of colours and patterns. Tickets must be purchased beforehand, limited spaces available and will be available on Eventbrite shortly (keep updated by following us on insta #norfolkdeaffestival or facebook @norfolkdeaffestival).
