Nantwich Museum

Nantwich Museum brings to life the fascinating history of one of Cheshire’s most attractive and historic towns. Established in 1980 as an independent charitable trust, the Museum is housed in the town’s former Victorian library and sits on the site of what was the town’s jail.

Our Main Gallery explores former industries including salt making, clock making and the shoe and clothing industries. You can also find out about some of the more disastrous events to impact the town such as the 1583 Great Fire of Nantwich.

Our Cheese Room is dedicated to this industry and traces it through the Victorian era to the present day. Cheshire cheese is the oldest named British cheese and Nantwich has been a centre for producing and selling Cheshire cheese.

Always changing, our Millennium Gallery hosts a programme of historic and art exhibitions with individuals and groups encouraged to use and hire this space. Find out more about holding an exhibition by contacting us.

Our Upstairs Meeting Room displays some of our art collection and Victorian maps of the town. The room is used by the Museum’s own interest groups such as the Research and Crafts Groups and is available for hire.

For a small museum, there is a lot to see and do with regular talks, walks, coffee mornings and more.
