The best places to go in London

London is a buzzing hub of activity and there are so many things to do that it often feels daunting. We thought we'd narrow down your options if you're looking to visit the capital and you're wondering what to do. With some obvious tourist attractions and some that are slightly more discreet, there will definitely be something that you enjoy in this list.

 

Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is a hub of discovery as you can go back in time and discover animals from all different periods of the Earth's history. One of their biggest dinosaurs, Dippy is back at the moment and you can get entry to the museum for free to see him. From bugs to fish and plant life, you'll see all different forms of life here and it's the perfect place to bring the kids too as they have interactive exhibits too.

The Tower of London

The Tower of London has so much history attached to it, especially where it concerns the Royals. All kinds of people have been locked up here and you can take a tour to see the crown jewels. Interact with the guards too, but maybe don't get too close to them. There are plenty of picturesque moments to be had here.

London Eye

The London Eye is an obvious choice if you're coming to London for the first time. yes. it may always be busy around here but it is worth it for the views of all the London landmarks and the ride lasts for longer than you'd think too. It is perfect for a mid-afternoon activity if you're going to be out all day.

Ministry of Sound

Maybe the normal tourist spots aren't really for you. Actually, you intend to sample the finest of the city's nightlife instead and Ministry of Sound is the perfect landmark club for you to visit. There's always something going down here and world-class DJs can be found playing every week. One of the best spots in London for a club night.

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds is the place to go if you want to meet celebrities. Well, not in person but these life-like wax works are the next best thing and provide plenty of photo opportunities. You'll see works of The Queen, Little Mix and many more celebrities who have left a lasting imprint on popular culture.

The West End

The West End looks absolutely stunning at night, with all the lights shining bright, tempting you into some of the best theatre shows in the world. There are so many amazing dramas and musicals on at the moment and the West End just seems to capture a certain sense of magic that only London can provide, it's a special feeling.

Buckingham Palace

Likely to be the most recognisable landmark in all of London, this is of course where the late Queen Elizabeth resided and where King Charles will be reigning from. The palace attracts tourists on a daily basis and the grand building is unlike any other architecture that you'll find in the city.

Westminster

The place where all the big decisions are made, Westminster is right beside the Thames and of course, features the iconic landmark of Big Ben. You can walk around Westminster on one of their tours, you can't see everything but it is really interesting to be within the halls of a building surrounded by so much history.

Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace is situated in North London and it's worth the journey to get to. Once you're at the top of the hill, you'll see what makes this place so special, as the beautiful building looms before you and you get to see a sweeping view of the whole of London before you.

It's a stunning scene and that's not to mention all the entertainment available at the palace too such as live music, ice hockey and various markets.

The Design Museum is the perfect place to learn about the behind-the-scenes decisions behind some of the most iconic parts of British culture and beyond. Notable exhibits recently include one dedicated to Fred Perry, one for Amy Winehouse and a look at the evolution of design when it comes to all things football.
