Skiddle's Open Goal: A Weekly Roundup of Football news and events

It's all change at the top of the Premier League yet again after the latest round of results. In the early Saturday kick-off, we got the biggest surprise of the weekend as an unusually error-ridden performance saw Chelsea beaten 3-2 by West Ham who claimed another impressive scalp. Jarrod Bowen was in top form and West Ham did well to come from behind. Whether or not Arthur Masuakau's late winner was intentional or not it was a deserved win.

It meant that Chelsea were vulnerable to dropping off of the top spot when Liverpool played later in the day. They faced Wolves and found themselves frustrated, with Diogo Jota missing an pretty much open goal after Jose Sa came flying out of his net firing straight at a brave Conor Coady on the line. It was up to the master of miracles Divock Origi to come off the bench and score a dramatic 94th-minute winner.

Liverpool were now on top but that would change yet again with Manchester City facing Watford where they came out comfortable 3-1 winners. They lead Liverpool by a narrow point and Chelsea by only two, it's one of the tightest title races for some time. In other Premier League news, Ralph Rangnick got off to a winning start as Manchester United manager as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0. Stephen Gerrard's Aston Villa also continued their impressive start by beating Leicester City 2-1.

In Championship news the top two teams cancelled each other out as Fulham and Bournemouth drew 1-1 in a game that was tense right until the final whistle. With the quality they both have on show, it is hard to see either of them being challenged too much this season.

Lancaster City vs AFC Darwen

When: Tuesday 7th December

Where: Lancaster City FC

Lancaster are taking on AFC Darwen in the quarter-finals of the LFA Challenge Trophy with the winners coming out with a strong chance of winning the competition. Cup days are always special and sides always want to sign off a season by beaing able to say that they've won something.

Come down for what will surely be a tight game as both sides absolutely go for it.

Lancaster City vs Basford United

When: Saturday 11th December

Where: Lancaster City FC

Lancaster City are in action once again at the weekend and this time they'll be taking on Basford United in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Lancaster are within three points of Basford despite being six places behind them in the table such is the tightness at the middle of the league.

With Basford surely wanting to build towards a playoff spot, this is a crucial game for both sides that will result in a very competitive fixture.

Caernarfon Town vs Aberystwyth Town

When: Friday 17th December 

Where: Yr Oval, Caernarfon

Caernarfon Town take on Aberystwyth Town in this Welsh Premier League fixture. Caernarfon Town will be hoping to climb up into the higher reaches of the table whilst Aberystwyth will want to avoid getting into a slump and every fixture in this league is vital.
