Earlier this month we announced our partnership with War Child for their Safe & Sound charity events, which will take place later this autumn at EartH in Hackney.

As part of the series, they have also confirmed a day of discussion and conversation around resilience, support and mental health in the music industry on Wednesday 4th September, also at EartH.

Mental health in the music industry is something we've been very focused on over the past year, with the results of our survey showing that 82% of industry professionals have suffered from stress, 67% said they had anxiety and 40% said they had struggled with depression.

In light of this, we'll be hosting our own panel - Supporting Promoter's Mental Health. The aim will be to discover more about the challenges and obstacles promoters face, and to look at what can be done to offer them more support.

Confirmed panelists are:

Amanda Maxwell - shesaid.so

Amanda is a board member and community manager of women in music network shesaid.so and a regular contributor to panel talks on subjects related to inclusion, representation and equal empowerment within the creative industries. Alongside this, Amanda also manages a London-based DJ Ellie Prohan. She has also set up a collective called Freelance Queens for freelance womxn from music and creative sectors with over 100 members to share job roles and advice whilst amplifying one another.

Ellie Talebian - Eclectic Toolbox

Offering broadcasting, voice over, Mental Health First Aid training and consulting solutions for the music industry, radio presenter Ellie Talebian is the director of Eclectic Toolbox, a forward thinking and dynamic organisation designed to serve creative companies and charitable initiatives.

John Rostron - The Association of Independent Promoters (AIP)

Promoter and founder of multi-venue festival Swn, John Rostron, formed a UK organisation called The Association of Independent Promoters (AIP), a body that brings together independent promoters from across the UK. The AIP helps promoters learn from each other, whilst advocating, supporting and lobbying on behalf of promoters. the team works with the UK music industry to bring about new ideas, innovation and change. The AIP aims to improve things for all — promoters, artists, audience, managers, venues, live agents, DJ agents and the whole ecosystem that brings about putting on a show or clubnight.

Stuart Glen - The Cause

Veteran London Promoter Stuart Glen co-founded The Cause, a temporary DIY space for London which celebrates dance music culture, London nightlife, independent business and positive mental health. Held within an ex car-mechanics depot, it recently turned into a multi-functional community project that supports arts, independent business, start-ups and a community garden from their neighbours Grow. The industrial venue hosts a labyrinth of interconnecting outdoor and indoor spaces and will operate for around 18 months, bringing arts and electronic music to North London, whilst using best endeavours to raise awareness and funds for both local and national mental health charities.

The Safe & Sound series aims to raise awareness of “the importance of mental health for young people and the psychosocial needs for children in war, alongside highlighting the mental health needs for those in the music industry.”

As well as Skiddle's involvement, War Child have unveiled a full line-up of speakers including Slaves' Laurie VincentRebecca Lucy Taylor of Self Esteem, plus Lily Somerville and Megan Markwick of IDER.
