The second-ever Skateboard GB Virtual Championships is officially underway, galvanising skaters UK-wide to pick up their boards, head out to their local skatepark, and record some of their slickest lines and gnarliest tricks.

In support of the 2022 edition of the online tournament, we here at Skiddle are immensely proud to announce our official title as the headline sponsor of this year's Virtual event.

What is the Virtual Championship and how exactly does it work?

Conceptualised and founded by the Skateboard GB team during the lockdown, in response to skaters being unable to attend the annual National event, the Virtual Championships allow thrashers and vert enthusiasts to compete with one another online via social media platforms, without the need of coming together.

Competitors are encouraged to take to their local skateparks, no matter how remote the destination might be, to catch their best lines on film and upload them to Instagram using the hashtag #SBGBVirtualChamps2022. Whoever's line is deemed the best, on the say-so of three expert judges, can win one of many prizes available with four lucky runner-ups, across both male and female categories, also in line to take home an award.

Did you know - There are 1,650 outdoor skateparks dotted across the UK with a further 65 indoor skateparks open to the public

What are the National Skateboarding Championships?

Customarily an in-person event, the National Skateboarding Championships see some of Britain's most exciting talents showing off their skills, competing against one another over two separate events. At the return of the Nationals earlier this year both Park and Street disciplines were introduced, providing even more of a spectacle for all those who attended.

Skaters who enter the National Championship must make their way through a series of qualifying heats for both disciplines mentioned above, before moving on to the finals and ultimately taking one or both of the coveted titles.

So, how can skaters enter the virtual tournament?

To enter the Virtual Championships, here's what you have to do:

- Film a single run, up to 45 seconds in length, demonstrating your skills

- Post your video to Instagram tagging and following both @skateboardgb and @skiddleuk, and using the

hashtag #SBGBVirtualChamps2022 in the videos description (one entry per person)

- Make sure your video is filmed in landscape orientation and that your Instagram profile is public in order to enter the competition

- The run MUST be filmed in a skatepark (indoor or outdoor) and MUST NOT be edited together

Further information:

The Virtual Championships are open to anyone. The period for qualifying entries runs from Monday the 20th of September until Thursday the 29th of September. Finalists will be announced on Saturday the 1st of October with all winners announced on Sunday the 2nd of October.

All that's left to say is good luck! We cannot wait to see your entries!
