Independent Venue Week Spotlight: Kanteena, Lancaster

Next week officially marks the return of Independent Venue Week! From Monday 29th January to Sunday 4th February, IVW 2024 cherishes the local venues that bless us with live music, club nights and more. We’re casting an eye over the best independent venues across the UK and this week we’re taking a look at Kanteena, a Lancastrian gem. 

Repurposed warehouse and ever-changing event space Kanteena is a multi-purpose venue at the centre of Lancaster’s nightlife. Originally built circa 1980 as a loading bay for an old brewery, the mutli-faceted venue has been transformed into an events venue, bar, social space and food court all wrapped up into one. For a venue as fresh-faced as this one, it’s quickly solidified its place in Lancaster’s social scene.

Head over for any of their events to discover mouth-watering street food and high-quality drinks, including beer and ale from some of the best English breweries around. They’re also a dog-friendly space, so you’ve officially got the green light to bring your pooch along to taste-test some of these delicious bevs!

Take your pic as Kanteena events have it all, including, live music, club nights, DJ sets, pop-up events, art installations, markets and much more. It doesn't matter what kind of outing you’ve got in mind, as there’s bound to be Kanteena tickets somewhere along the calendar that’ll fit the bill.

Despite being a fairly new venue, Kanteena has seen performances from the likes of The Lovely Eggs, YOUSEF, Love Dose Records, While She Sleeps (DJ Set), Lowes, K-Klass, and more. This Is The Kit, Dead Men Walking and Jeremiah Ferrari are some of the names eagerly awaiting to take to the stage next. Couple that with plenty of cracking free events and you really don’t have to break the bank to enjoy whatever Kanteena has to offer. 

If filling your bellies is your idea of a good time, Kanteena offers some of the finest street eats in the north to provide diverse menus to tantalise your taste buds. The vendors change their menu weekly, so there’s always something new and tasty for you to try.

Kanteena can fit around 600 dancers, ravers, or moshers, with around 120 other die-hard music fans fitting in the upstairs Atika room. It’s easy to get to as well, as its location in Lancaster’s Canal Quarter is privy to plenty of transport links.
