Sir Elton John has just been announced as the first headliner for Glastonbury Festival 2023. The Rocket Man himself will be closing the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night, for a performance that is billed as his final farewell, with it being the last UK gig of his illustrious career.

This will surprisingly be the legend's first-ever time at the iconic festival, despite rumours of him playing being an annual inevitability. But, given it's both his first and last time, you can all but guarantee it's going to be an emotional rollercoaster of timeless tunes, and monumental importance.

The singer had previously hinted "one final date" would be announced for his last tour, with many correctly guessing the date would be Glastonbury.

Following the announcement, Glastonbury Organiser Emily Eavis said: "It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year.

"This will be the final UK show of Elton's last-ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send-offs."

Elton added in a statement: "There is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans.

"I can't wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world. It's going to be incredibly emotional."

While Glastonbury will mark the Tiny Dancer's final UK show, it won’t actually be his final ever show. His 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour', which began all the way back in 2018, will continue through Europe until July 2023.

While tickets for Glastonbury have unfortunately sold out, any among you who managed to secure tickets will be in for one incredible treat. The rest of us will have to make due watching Elton's final show from our couches.
