Accessibility Information
ACCESSIBILITY
Wilderness Festival welcomes deaf and disabled guests, and we’re working harder than ever to make adjustments and additions in order to make the festival as accessible as possible for those of our guests who have disabilities and specific requirements.
BOOKABLE ACCESS FACILITIES
Once you have purchased a standard ticket for Wilderness, you can then register and book the following access facilities, upon the submission of evidence.
An Accessibility Wristband
A 2-for-1 ticket for a carer/personal assistant*
An Accessible parking space
*Please note, the 2-for-1 scheme is only available to standard ticket holders, so children aged 10 and under are not eligible.
1) Accessibility Wristband
- This grants access to all of the following accessibility facilities on site:Access to the Accessibility campsite and blue-badge car park.
- Viewing platform at Main Stage (unsheltered).
- Wheelchair-accessible toilets at viewing platform and Medic tent (other wheelchair-accessible toilets are located in each of the main toilet blocks throughout the arena).
- Use of the Accessible Drop-off/Pick-up point.
- Powerchair charging point located at the viewing platform and accessibility campsite.
- Guide/hearing dog resting area located at the Welfare tent.
- Lowered bars, which will also have large-print menus.
- Induction loop at check-in point.
Partnered local taxi service off site, for those requiring wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
Once you have registered for the Accessibility Wristband (read below for how to register) and we have confirmed your application, you will receive a wristband at the check-in point when you arrive. If your 2-for-1 request is also approved, your PA will be given the same accessibility wristband and have the same access rights as you.
2) 2-for-1 Ticket for a carer/personal assistant
We operate a ‘2-for-1’ scheme where you are able to bring a carer/personal assistant who gets free entry. These tickets are limited and this is a scheme which is for the exclusive use of people who would otherwise be unable to attend Wilderness without the aid of a carer. This 2-for-1 ticket must be confirmed by us in advance and is not an automatic privilege when registering as an accessibility guest. As mentioned above, the 2-for-1 scheme is only available to standard ticket holders, so children aged 10 and under are not eligible. Please do not purchase the carer ticket with your own if you intend on applying for the 2-for-1 scheme, as refunds cannot be offered.
3) Blue-badge Parking
While we strongly advise using public transport to try and lessen our carbon footprint, we are well aware that some people may require blue-badge parking due to mobility difficulties. We, therefore, have a blue-badge parking area which is free of charge, approximately 50m from the Accessibility check-in point over a green-field site.
To gain access to this parking area, you must register in advance for a Wilderness Parking Permit, which we will send you in advance. You must display this permit in your car upon arrival – entry will not be granted without this. Do not purchase a parking permit if you intend to apply for a blue-badge parking space, no refunds for parking can be given.
APPLYING FOR BOOKABLE ACCESSIBILITY PROVISIONS
Wilderness welcomes deaf and disabled guests, and we’re working harder than ever to make the show as accessible as possible. We operate a 2 for 1 (free carer ticket) policy for eligible guests. The campsite is the closest to the arena with a central and private car park and benefits from a hard road from its entrance to make access by wheelchair easier.
In order to book your accessible tickets please call the Accessible Ticketing Team on 0800 988 4440.Toilets
We provide at least one wheelchair-accessible toilet at each main toilet block in the arena, one at the main stage viewing platform and one at the Welfare tent. There will also be wheelchair-accessible toilets in the Accessibility campsite. These will be ‘festival style’ portable units, and most will have Radar locks fitted for your benefit.
Showers
There will be a wheelchair-accessible shower unit available in the Accessibility campsite, please note that there are no wheelchair-accessible shower units available in the General Admission campsite, family campsite, boutique campsite or camper van campsite.
Induction loop
There is an induction loop available at the Accessibility check-in point, the location of this will be made clear in the access info.
Strobes
Please note that strobe effects may be used at the event. There will be no specific announcements prior to the use of strobes and lasers. Strobe flicker rates will be at or below 4 flashes per second.
Medical services
Our on-site medical services provide comprehensive medical advice and treatment facilities and are flexible in meeting specific needs.
Access to the site
Wilderness is on a large green-field site with very few hard-standing paths. While there are some sheltered areas (marquees) it is mainly an open-air event. Weather and ground conditions may be variable and in times of extreme weather, mobility on the site may become very difficult. We ask you to consider this before purchasing a ticket.
The route from the registered blue-badge parking area/pick-up/drop-off point to the Main Arena is approximately 500m over a gravel pathway and green-field site. The Accessibility campsite is approximately 150m from the Accessible parking/pick-up/drop-off point over a green-field site.
FESTIVAL SPIRIT
We are proud to be working with Festival Spirit again for the third year; they are a superb charity providing the full festival experience to those who would not normally be able to enjoy one due to life-limiting illness or disability. Festival Spirit will have a marquee set up in the accessible camping area where they will be stationed for the entirety of the festival with their guests. If this is a charity that interests you, please do visit them for information.
While they will be happy to help you with any general accessibility questions while at Wilderness, we do ask that you contact our information point/security or production crew first with any questions or concerns.
Travelling to/from the festival
Wilderness Festival is in its essence a celebration of the outdoors, based under the canopies and parkland of Cornbury Deer Park.
Wilderness Festival
Cornbury Park
Oxfordshire
OX7 3DG
Wilderness is roughly 70 miles out of central London, located in the Oxfordshire countryside.
The village of Charlbury is the nearest village and is based a 1.6mile drive from the festival site. Charlbury rail station provides a regular rail service from Oxford, so whichever part of the world you are coming from there is a quick and easy route to this lovely part of Oxfordshire.
Wilderness asks all its guests driving to site not to drive through local villages to minimize the disruption. The festival works closely with a traffic management group to position clear event signage along all of the main access routes prior to the event weekend.
Directions to the site:
ALL PEOPLE ATTENDING THE EVENT MUST FOLLOW THESE SAME INSTRUCTIONS – AS YOU APPROACH, EVENT SIGNS WILL GUIDE YOU TO THE CORRECT FESTIVAL GATE
The event is just outside a small village called Charlbury, north west of Oxford – the directions and the postcode you use for your satnav will depend on where you are coming from, so please look at the directions relevant to your point of origin.
As you approach the estate yellow AA road signs will guide you into the festival, so keep your eyes peeled! When you see the signs follow them not your satnav…
FROM THE EAST AND SOUTH
Head to the A34/A44 (pear tree) interchange and then use the A44 north through Woodstock and turn left down the B4437 towards Charlbury. Follow postcode OX20 1HT.
FROM THE WEST
Follow the A40 (or M4/A419/A361) to Burford, then take the A361 towards Chipping Norton and then turn right onto the B4437 towards Charlbury. Follow postcode OX7 6DL until you pick up the local signage.
FROM THE NORTH
Take the Banbury turn off and follow the A361 towards and then through Chipping Norton. Turn left on the B4437 towards Charlbury. Follow postcode OX7 6DL until you pick up the local signage.
PARKING
There will be plenty of parking spaces to use on the festival site. Please don’t park on verges, in fire lanes, in gateways or on private roads. Parking will be clearly signposted when approaching the site and entering the site.
Alternatively please see details below for our car sharing scheme, public transport and information on the Bike2Basics program run by Wilderness this year.
TRAIN
With Charlbury Station situated directly on the Cornbury Park estate, traveling by train to Wilderness could not be easier. Buses will pick you and your bags up and bring you the extra short distance to the festival site (bus details below). Trains run regularly from Paddington, Reading, Oxford and Worcester. To book your train tickets from anywhere in the UK, with no credit card or booking fees, visit http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/
Please note: No closures are currently scheduled on the rail routes, however, it is advised that you check before starting your journey.
